"Those willing to go along with Billy's patchy journey just might find themselves entertained by what this DC sequel has to offer. It's not without its problems, but if you were a fan of the first one, you're guaranteed a good time at the movies this weekend. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a highly enjoyable superhero adventure that hits the right emotional beats while providing a few belly-laughs in the process. It strives for permanence, but all that lightning is sound and fury, signifying nothing. You could see this without having seen anything else, not just of its ilk, but at all, and you'd probably be amused, but despite references to where the director met his wife this is less a roman-a-clef than keys jingled before a baby. Batman V Superman had fewer capes and needed at least 20 minutes more, Eternals wasn't quite though at five more minutes nearly felt like it, and Endgame's further 25 minutes don't include the 21 other feature films in the run-up. Unfortunately, you have to watch the rest of Shazam! Fury of the Gods to see it.Īt 130 minutes it doesn't drag as much as some of its competitors or compatriots. Within Shazam! Fury of the Gods is an enjoyable, earnest buddy-comedy starring Jack Dylan Grazer and Djimon Hounsou. A food coupon gives you a combo of popcorn, samosa, and coke, but a ticket of Shazam will give you fun, action, explosion and superheroes! Grab it. Overall, it’s another crowd-friendly superhero flick for DC in their changing phase. It makes even critics become audiences for a while and do all the laughing and clapping on several occasions. Shazam 2 isn’t a critic-proof film, but it’s a crowd pleasing entertainer. Shazam! Fury of the Gods has good and bad points, but when you come right down to it, it is a decent film that includes a star-studded cast, a cool, evil dragon, and Zachary Levi!Ī sequel that solidifies and elevates everything that works in the first film to deliver an entertaining, memorable, and gratifying experience. Fury of the Gods still retains enough of the source material's silly charm to save the day.
